Small art glass decorative bowl by designer Erik Hoglund for Kosta Boda.
Erik Höglund was born in 1932 in the coastal city of Karlskrona in the south of Sweden. At school, he took an interest in drawing, crafts, and sports. When he was twelve, he contracted diabetes which affected his health in later years. Erik Höglund is best known as a glass artist, called both the wonder boy and enfant terrible of Swedish glass. But Höglund also designed furniture, mirrors and other interior objects of wood and metal.
Kosta Boda is one of the world’s leading brands of glassware and art glass. Technology and an understanding of glass have been refined here in the heart of the forests in the Swedish province of Småland ever since 1742. Their glassware is vibrant, bold, innovative and provocative. Kosta glassworks is Sweden’s oldest still operating glassworks. The furnaces here have been lit since 1742.
