HOLMEGAARD vintage glass handkerchief shaped candle holder ‘LAGUNA’ by designer Per Lütken.
Per Lütken was a Danish glassmaker (1916–1998), most famous for his works at Holmegaard Glass Factory. Lütken has set his signature on the history of Danish glassmaking, designing more than 3,000 pieces of glass for Holmegaard, a company for whom he worked from 1942 and until his death in 1998. Amongst the best known series created by him are “Ideelle”, “Skibsglas”, “No. 5”, “Selandia” and “Charlotte Amalie”, all of which are still selling at high prices throughout the world. They are all regarded as design icons, and are found in many Danish homes to this day.
The history of Holmegaard glassworks began in 1825, when Count Christian Danneskiold-Samsøe sought permission from the King of Denmark to establish a glassworks at Holmegaard Mose. The factory was to be located in the bog because there was sufficient fuel there to produce the high temperatures needed for the glass kiln. Initial production at Holmegaard glassworks began in 1825. The history of Holmegaard glassworks is a story of a few small glassworks in a peat bog, growing to become part of a large modern group over a period of 185 years. During the 20th century, artists entered the equation, designing and shaping Holmegaard’s glass products. This was the start of a long and proud tradition, and as a result, even to this very day, some of the best artists in Denmark are associated with Holmegaard’s glass production.
